I think that WoW did a good start to don't let raiders use more than one potion per fight and let consumables stack up to twenty. Besides the fact that the Inventory is kinda large.

This reduced the amount of pots I was carrying alot (I don't carry Health pots as tank or mana pots as hunter anymore). I use 6 bagslots for consumables (2 for flasks, 2 for food, 2 for pot's) but on the other hand over 50 for equipment, needed for other gears (aka pvp-gear, tanking gear, another set of tanking gear, dps gear, and a tanking gear with a small iLvL for thar stupid Algalon achievement). I could put them into my bank, if there was any space. When I started playing, Epics were great and special! Well, I never sold a piece of purple Equipment I've ever worn, because of that my bank is stuffed.

Besides, nowadays we need twenty different glyphs for every fight, one or two other enchants (armor or stamina, movementspeed or agility).

BUT, WoW managed one thing. Using the one kind of potion you need, is effective in nearly every fight.

Besides, who ever used those antidotes, exploding pot's and whatever in D2? Worst items ever to be designed by purpose.

aww crap, I wrote some shit in my post :( but hej, I tired!

I would argue that most epics in wow are more common then greens or blues... ppl run the raids so often that epic really just means common... so if you want a rare item... make it rare would be a great start i guess.
for consumables and charges i think you should either remove the quantities on them completely (never ending healing potion) or make them irrelevant (like buying 1k pots in ragnarok before leaving town). the thing about pots like in wow or d2 is that you do not use them because there is allways a situation where you would have more use for them so you try to get along without them as long as you can. so if you want consumables in your game make sure people use them. other then that i like the item system of me2 as well. if you do not have creative or special items like in the classic d2 you might as well not have them at all.
