Procrastination Amplification: Punditry on MMOs and games in general.

Quickie: A Good Week for Turn-Based Strategy

Both Civilization V and Elemental: War of Magic got huges patches the other day. The patch notes for Elemental show a huge amount of changes to actual gameplay, as has been hinted at before by the switch of the game’s lead developer among other things. I didn’t get to try the new, changed game yet (and they say that they still aren’t done) but maybe it will be worth another look soon. (You know, when those long, boring winter evenings finally come around.)

Civilization V’s changes don’t seem to have as much impact as those in Elemental, but the list ist still quite long and from what I can see, most changes will have positive effects on how the game plays. Especially the AI improvements might make playing the game a lot more fun when evenly matched (as opposed to fighting the awfully cheating AI on the higher difficulty levels.) Also they nerfed the previously-insane maritime city-states. Good riddance!
