Quickie: Rift Open Beta

The open beta for Rift starts tomorrow and as far as I understand it you simply have to sign up over at riftgame.com in order to participate. This beta really is a preview and promotion event, giving players the ability to check out the game before actually buying it. Just compare that move to something like the awful NDA of games like APB and you can see that the developers of Rift are quite confident. And I think they can be – their game doesn’t do an awful lot of innovating, but it sure is quite polished. If you are in the market for a new MMO, why not check out Rift for free and see if you like it?

This is not an endorsement in any way, I’m still not sure whether I’ll actually play the game much after release (though I have pre-purchased it. But with me and MMOs that doesn’t mean a whole lot.) I’d just like to make you aware of the open beta. Enjoy.

On a side note, Maxis is also accepting beta applications over at the Darkspore beta website. This looks like a simple random drawing of beta testers though. Good luck.
